Эрнст Лоринг "Красный" Николс (8 мая, 1905 – 28 июня 1965) - американский джазовый cornettist, композитор и джазовый музыкант.
За свою долгую карьеру, Николс, записанные в самых разнообразных музыкальных стилях, и критик Стив Леггетт описывает его как "эксперта корнетиста, твердый импровизатор, и, видимо, трудоголик, поскольку он, по слухам, появились на более 4000 записей в 1920-е годы в одиночестве".
Николс родилась 8 мая 1905 года в Огдене, штат Юта, США. Его отец был музыкальный колледж профессор, и Николс был вундеркиндом, потому что к двенадцати годам он уже играл сложные произведения для духового оркестра отца. Молодой Николс услышал ранние записи оригинальный Джаз-бэнд Диксиленда, а потом и тех Бикса Байдербека, и они оказали сильное влияние на молодого корнетиста. Его стиль стал полированным, чистым и острым.
В начале 1920-х годов, Николс переезжает на Запад и присоединился к группе под названием Синкоп семь. Когда группа распалась, он присоединился к оркестру Джонни Джонсон и поехал с ним в Нью-Йорке в 1923 году. Нью-Йорк останется его основа для лет.
