Biographie (wiki)
Twiggy (* 19. September 1949 als Lesley Hornby in Neasden, London Borough of Brent, London) ist eine britische Schauspielerin und Sängerin. Üblicherweise tritt sie heutzutage als Twiggy Lawson auf.
Twiggy wurde als Lesley Hornby in Neasden, einem Vorort von London, geboren. Ihre Eltern sind William Norman Hornby (ein Zimmermann) und Helen Hornby (eine Verkäuferin der Ladenkette Woolworth).
Im Alter von 16 Jahren wurde Lesley durch den Einfluss ihres Freundes und Managers Justin de Villeneuve berühmt. Die ersten Modelfotos entstanden bei dem Fotografen Barry Lategan und fielen der Moderedakteurin des Daily Express, Deirdre McSharry, in die Hände, die die Schülerin Lesley zum Tee traf und ein weiteres Fotoshooting organisierte. McSharry publizierte die Fotos in der Daily Mail 1966 unter dem Titel „The Face of 1966“ mit dem Text „The Cockney kid with a face to launch a thousand shapes... and she’s only 16“. Nach der Fotoserie wurde sie für die Vogue fotografiert, später folgten Fotosessions mit Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin und Norman Parkinson. Bald war sie „das Gesicht“ der 1960er Jahre (Swinging Sixties) in London und erhielt ihren Spitznamen dank ihrer spindeldürren, jugendlichen Figur (Twiggy heißt „wie ein dünner Zweig“, englisch „twig“). Sie galt als erstes Supermodel im Teenageralter und ihre Figur, die sie später selbst als viel zu dünn beschrieben hat, galt aufgrund der dünnen Waden, der geraden Beine und der kleinen, schmalen Füße nach Diana Vreeland, der damaligen Chefredakteurin der amerikanischen Vogue, als das Bild des perfekten Körpers der Zeit.
