Wynton Learson Marsalis (New Orleans, 18 ottobre 1961) è un trombettista e compositore statunitense.
Wynton Marsalis è il secondogenito di sei fratelli, quasi tutti impegnati nel mondo della musica: figlio di Dolores e di Ellis, pianista ed educatore musicale, suo fratello maggiore è il sassofonista Branford, tra i minori vi sono Delfeayo, trombonista ma meglio conosciuto come produttore musicale, e Jason, batterista.
A sei anni Wynton ricevette in dono la prima tromba dalle mani di Al Hirt, ma non ne venne attratto subito: durante l'infanzia preferiva ascoltare musica piuttosto che eseguirla, i suoi idoli erano Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye e molti altri esponenti del funk e del pop che più tardi cominciò a contestare.
Il primo approccio serio alla musica risale all'adolescenza: verso i tredici anni scoprì la musica classica attraverso le esecuzioni di Maurice André e, in seguito, il jazz. A quattordici anni vinse un premio cittadino con l'esecuzione del Concerto per tromba in mi bemolle maggiore di Haydn e, due anni dopo, con il Secondo concerto brandeburghese di Bach.
