Isabelle Geffroy1, dite Zaz, née le 1er mai 1980 à Chambray-lès-Tours (Indre-et-Loire), est une chanteuse et auteur-compositrice-interprète française mêlant les styles variété française, folk et soul. Elle a été connue grâce à la deuxième chanson de son premier album, Zaz, intitulée Je veux, qui a été publié le 10 mai 2010. On compte à ce jour quatre albums, Zaz, Recto verso, Paris et Sur la route, sortis en 2010, 2013, 2014 et en 2015, respectivement.
En 1985, dès l'âge de cinq ans, Isabelle Geffroy entre au conservatoire de Tours, tout comme sa sœur et son frère. C'est dans la rue Auguste-Chevallier que Zaz va se faire connaître et remarquer au cabaret Chez Nello2. Elle fait ses études au conservatoire jusqu'à l'âge de onze ans. Elle étudie surtout le solfège, le violon, le piano, la guitare et le chant choral.
En 1994, à la suite du divorce de leurs parents, les trois enfants suivent leur mère à Libourne, près de Bordeaux3.
En 1995, Zaz prend des cours de chant. Pendant un an, au « Centre d’Information et d’Activités Musicales » (CIAM) de Bordeaux4, elle suit aussi des cours de kung-fu, avec un entraîneur professionnel5.
En 2000, elle obtient une bourse d'étude du conseil régional d'Aquitaine, ce qui lui permet d’intégrer une école de musiques actuelles : le CIAM de Bordeaux (Centre d’information et d’activités musicales). Parmi ses influences musicales, elle cite Les Quatre Saisons de Vivaldi, les chanteuses de jazz comme Ella Fitzgerald, la chanson française, Enrico Macias, Bobby McFerrin, Richard Bona, ainsi que les rythmes afro, latino-américain et cubain.
