Edouard Louis Joseph Merckx (Meensel-Kiezegem, Brabante, Bélgica, 17 de junio de 1945), conocido como Eddy Merckx, es un ciclista belga retirado, considerado como el mejor ciclista de todos los tiempos. Su ambición hizo que le apodaran El Caníbal, El Ogro de Tervueren o El Monstruo belga.
A lo largo de su dilatada carrera deportiva, fue Campeón del Mundo de Ciclismo y ganador en varias ocasiones del Giro de Italia, el Tour de Francia y la Vuelta a España, entre otras muchas carreras de menor trascendencia deportiva.
En 1974 logró la llamada Triple Corona del ciclismo, al ganar dos Grandes Vueltas (Giro y Tour) y el Campeonato del Mundo el mismo año.
Está casado y tiene dos hijos, Sabrina y Axel, siendo este último igualmente ciclista profesional, retirado en 2007. Como dato curioso, el hijo de Sabrina, Luca Massó, nacido de su matrimonio con el tenista argentino Eduardo Massó, participó en la conquista de la medalla de oro en hockey sobre césped ganada por Argentina a Bélgica en los JJOO de Río 2016.
