Dean Karnazes (born Constantine Karnazes; August 23, 1962) (pronounced car-NAH-sis), é um Americano ultramaratonista, autor do livro Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner, que detalha um ultramaratonista correndo para o público em geral.
"Quando completou 30 anos, Dean Karnazes descobriu que podia correr o quanto quisesse sem se cansar; corpo do atleta é tão incomum que tem sido objeto de estudo científico."
"Depois de correr mais de 500 quilômetros em 81 horas sem parar, acho que encontrei meu limite. Passei duas noites sem dormir e estava bem, mas, na terceira, comecei a alucinar", conta Karnazes. "Dormia correndo e entendi que esse era o limite funcional que um humano podia atingir. Pelo menos, era pra mim", completa.
"Me mandaram para um centro no Colorado onde, primeiro, testaram minha capacidade aeróbica", contou Karnazes ao jornal britânico The Guardian. Os resultados, contudo, foram consistentes com os de atletas de alto rendimento, mas nada extraordinário.
