Kathryn Bigelow (ur. 27 listopada 1951 w San Carlos) – amerykańska reżyserka, scenarzystka i producentka filmowa. Tworzy obrazy różnorodne gatunkowo: science fiction, filmy akcji, horrory. Jest jedną z pięciu kobiet kiedykolwiek nominowanych do Oscara za najlepszą reżyserię. Pierwsza i jak dotychczas jedyna kobieta, która tę nagrodę otrzymała.
Urodziła się w San Carlos w Kalifornii jako jedyne dziecko kierownika sklepu z farbami i bibliotekarki.
Zaczynała jako malarka. Przez dwa lata studiowała malarstwo w San Francisco Art Institute, a potem zdobyła prestiżowe stypendium Programu Samodzielnych Studiów Whitney Museum w 1971 roku. Odbyła też podyplomowe studia filmowe na Columbia University, w zakresie teorii i krytyki.
Jej pierwszy krótkometrażowy film, The Set-Up (1978), to 20-minutowa dekonstrukcja przemocy w filmie. Pierwszy jej film fabularny to The Loveless (1982) o motocyklistach, gdzie współreżyserem był Monty Montgomery. Następnie wyreżyserowała Blisko ciemności (Near Dark, 1987), na podstawie scenariusza napisanego we współpracy z Erikiem Redem. Film wzbudził zainteresowanie zarówno krytyków, jak i fanów horrorów dzięki swej niezwykłej mieszance gatunków, łączącej film o wampirach i western.
