Theodore Roosevelt, detto Teddy o TR, (New York, 27 ottobre 1858 – Sagamore Hill, 6 gennaio 1919), è stato un politico statunitense.
È stato il 26º presidente degli Stati Uniti e ha ricevuto il Premio Nobel per la pace. Il suo volto è uno dei quattro scolpiti sul monte Rushmore, assieme a quelli di George Washington, Thomas Jefferson e Abraham Lincoln. Divenne Presidente, in seguito all'assassinio di William McKinley, all'età di 42 anni ed ancora oggi è la persona più giovane ad aver ricoperto la carica di presidente degli Stati Uniti.
Nacque a New York il 27 ottobre del 1858, da una famiglia aristocratica originaria del Regno dei Paesi Bassi. Il padre, Theodore Roosevelt, era un repubblicano progressista, mentre la madre, Martha Bulloch, era una conservatrice convinta, cresciuta in una piantagione in Georgia. Il giovane Theodore soffriva di frequenti attacchi d'asma.
Nel 1876 entra nella Facoltà di Legge dell'Università Harvard, distinguendosi nei risultati sportivi e scolastici. Laureatosi soggiorna brevemente in Germania. Si iscrive alla Columbia University (scuola di specializzazione in legge), ma la abbandona dopo poco per cominciare la propria carriera politica. Nel 1880 si unisce al Partito Repubblicano e due anni dopo ottiene la sua prima carica politica come membro del parlamento dello Stato di New York.
