Louise L. Hay (Los Angeles, 8 ottobre 1926 – Los Angeles, 30 agosto 2017) è stata una scrittrice statunitense, autrice di numerosi libri di auto-aiuto, tra i quali il celebre Puoi guarire la tua vita, pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1984 e oggi considerato uno dei testi fondamentali del pensiero positivo.
Louise Hay ha raccontato la sua vita in un'intervista a Mark Oppenheimer del New York Times nel maggio del 2008.
In essa dice di aver avuto un'infanzia difficile, come lei stessa racconta in un capitolo del suo best seller "Puoi guarire la tua vita", segnata da un patrigno violento e da una violenza sessuale subita da un vicino di casa quando aveva solo cinque anni.
A 15 anni abbandona la scuola, rimane incinta e la sua bambina, quando nasce, non potendo Louise prendersene cura adeguatamente, viene data in adozione. Si trasferisce quindi a Chicago, dove svolge una serie di lavori umili e frequenta vari ragazzi e uomini che la maltrattano, fino al 1950, quando si stabilisce a New York. In questa città la sua vita ha una svolta: cambia nome e inizia a lavorare con successo come indossatrice nell'alta moda. Nel 1954 sposa un ricco uomo d'affari britannico ma dopo 14 anni di matrimonio viene lasciata per un'altra donna, avvenimento che devasta Louise interiormente ma che risulta anche essere la molla per una grande trasformazione interiore.
