Édith Piaf, pseudonimo di Édith Giovanna Gassion (Parigi, 19 dicembre 1915 – Grasse, 10 ottobre 1963), è stata una cantautrice francese.
È stata una grande interprete del filone realista (chanteuse réaliste). Nota anche come "Passerotto", come veniva soprannominata per la sua minuta statura (passerotto infatti nell'argot parigino si dice piaf), è stata in attività tra gli anni trenta e sessanta; già a otto anni, però, dovette muovere i primi passi verso la musica cantando per suo padre in strada.
Definita come "l'ugola insanguinata" di un passerotto, la sua voce era caratterizzata da numerose sfumature. In molti casi era lei stessa l'autrice dei testi delle canzoni che interpretava.
La vita di Édith Piaf fu costellata da vari eventi negativi: incidenti stradali, episodi di coma etilico, interventi chirurgici, e anche un tentativo di suicidio. In una delle sue ultime apparizioni pubbliche si presentò infatti minata nella salute, con le mani deformate dall'artrite reumatoide e con radi capelli.
