Daddy Yankee, pseudonimo di Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez (San Juan, 3 febbraio 1977), è un cantante, rapper, produttore cinematografico, conduttore radiofonico ed imprenditore portoricano. È uno degli artisti del XXI secolo più influenti del suo genere, tanto da essere definito dalla critica come El Rey (Il Re) del Reggaeton.
Ramón è nato a Río Piedras, il più grande distretto di San Juan, ed è cresciuto a Villa Kennedy, dove si è interessato alla musica sin dalla giovane età e ha iniziato a scrivere musica a tredici anni. Durante la sua gioventù Ramón era anche appassionato di baseball e sognava di diventare un giocatore della Major League Baseball. Per sua sfortuna, non è stato in grado di proseguire la sua carriera in questo sport a causa di un colpo di pistola subito alla gamba, che tuttora gli impedisce di camminare correttamente.
Si è così concentrato sulla sua altra passione: la musica, diventando rapper di un nuovo genere musicale che si stava diffondendo a Porto Rico, il reggaeton. Dopo aver ricevuto lezioni da molti artisti del genere, ha iniziato una carriera indipendente, cominciando a registrare le sue prime canzoni. Successivamente ha iniziato a produrre anche altri album indipendenti. Il suo primo disco è stato No Mercy, pubblicato nel 1995. Ha poi formato un duo con Nicky Jam e continuato la sua carriera pubblicando gli album El cartel ed El cartel II. Questi lo hanno reso uno dei pionieri del genere reggaeton.
