Alexander Nikolayevich Vertinsky (in russo: Александр Николаевич Вертинский, 21 Marzo 1889 a Kiev — il 21 Maggio 1957 a Leningrado, polacco: Aleksander Wertyński) è stato un russo e Sovietico, artista, poeta, cantante, compositore, autore e attore di cabaret che ha esercitato seminale influenza russa tradizione artistica del canto.
Nato fuori del matrimonio, Vertinsky fu allevato dalla sorella di suo padre a Kiev, in Ucraina (allora parte dell'Impero russo. Fu espulso dalla scuola nel 1905 e provato una varietà di posti di lavoro prima di iniziare a guadagnare da vivere, contribuendo racconti a Kiev periodici. Nel 1912, Vertinsky e sua sorella si trasferisce a Mosca, dove ha fallito nel suo intento di unire Konstantin Stanislavskij di Mosca dell'Arte del Teatro. Durante quel tempo, divenne dipendente da cocaina, un'abitudine che pretendono la vita di sua sorella.
Dal 1916, Vertinsky iniziato ad applicare una pittoresca figura di Pierrot, con polvere di viso, cantando in miniatura novelle-in-canzone conosciuta come ariettas, o "Pierrot è lugubri stornelli". Ogni brano contenuto in un prologo, esposizione, culmine, e un tragico finale.
