Walter Elias Disney dit Walt Disney, né le 5 décembre 1901 à Chicago (Illinois) et mort le 15 décembre 1966 à Burbank (Californie), est connu comme producteur, réalisateur, scénariste, acteur et animateur américain de dessins animés. Il fonda en 1923 la société Walt Disney Company et devint petit à petit l'un des producteurs de films les plus célèbres. Walt Disney est aussi le créateur du premier « parc à thèmes », inventant ce concept.
Walt Disney est également connu pour avoir été un conteur d'histoire, et une vedette de télévision. Lui et son équipe ont créé un bon nombre des personnages animés les plus connus au monde, dont l'un est considéré à la suite d'une interprétation romantique de plusieurs journalistes comme son alter ego : Mickey Mouse.
Walt Disney est né à Chicago le 5 décembre 1901, c'est le quatrième fils d'Elias Disney d'origine irlandaise et Flora Call. Il portait en deuxième prénom celui de son père, et en premier, celui d'un proche ami de son père : Walter Parr, un pasteur de l'église congrégationaliste Saint Paul. Walt est baptisé le 8 juin 1902 dans l'église du révérend Parr et par celui-ci. En décembre 1903 naît la sœur de Walt, Ruth Flora Disney. La famille vit à l'époque sur Tripp Avenue, des revenus de l'entreprise de bâtiment d'Elias qui exerce principalement le métier de charpentier depuis qu'il a travaillé en 1893 sur les chantiers de la World Columbian Exposition. Selon un essai biographique écrit par Elias Disney probablement en 1939, le nom Disney aurait pour origine une anglicisation du nom D'Isigny, qu'auraient porté deux soldats normands Hughes d'Isigny et son fils Robert partis à la conquête de l'Angleterre aux côtés de Guillaume le Conquérant, et restés dans le pays après la victoire de 1066. Une branche de la famille Disney émigre en Irlande au XVII siècle. Plus tard, Arundel Elias Disney, arrière-grand-père de Walt, son frère Robert et leurs familles s'embarquent en 1834 à destination de l'Amérique du Nord. Ils arrivent à New York le 3 octobre 1834. Robert s'installe dans une ferme du Midwest tandis qu'Arundel décide de s'établir à Goderich Township dans le Comté d'Huron, province de l'Ontario au Canada.
