Stella McCartney, née le 13 septembre 1971 à Lambeth (Londres), est une styliste anglaise.
Elle est la fille de Paul McCartney, membre des Beatles, et de Linda Eastman, photographe américaine.
La naissance prématurée de Stella, par césarienne, a lieu dans des conditions traumatisantes, sa mère et elle faillirent en mourir. Selon son père, c'est à ce moment qu'il trouva le nom du groupe de musique qu'il formera plus tard avec sa femme. En effet, alors qu'il attend dans le couloir hors de la salle d'opération, il prie pour que la venue au monde de sa fille se déroule selon ses mots : « On the wings of an angel » (« sur les ailes d'un ange »).
Leurs parents veulent vivre une vie normale, bien qu'étant eux-mêmes célèbres, Stella, ses deux sœurs Mary et Heather ainsi que leur frère James poursuivent leur scolarité dans une école publique de l'est du Sussex.
Très tôt attirée par le stylisme Stella McCartney coud sa première veste à l'adolescence. Quelques années plus tard, en stage, elle participe à l'élaboration de la première collection haute couture de Christian Lacroix. En 1995, elle présente sa collection de fin d'études au St Martins College of Art & Design à Londres. Pour ce défilé appelé « Stella May Day », son père est l'auteur de la musique et ses créations sont présentées entre autres par Naomi Campbell, Yasmin Le Bon et Kate Moss.
