Sarah Michelle Gellar, née le 14 avril 1977 à New York, est une actrice, productrice et entrepreneuse américaine.
Elle est remarquée grâce à son rôle de Kendall Hart dans le soap-opéra La Force du destin, rôle qu'elle interprète sur une période de deux ans entre 1993 et 1995 grâce auquel elle remporte un Emmy Award.
Elle devient une star internationale à part entière avec le rôle de Buffy Summers dans la série Buffy contre les vampires, rôle qu'elle tient sur un total de sept saisons et 144 épisodes. Son interprétation lui vaut plusieurs récompenses et une nomination aux Golden Globes. Grâce à ce rôle en particulier, elle démontre son talent d'actrice à travers plusieurs genre dont le drame, l'horreur, le comique et même la comédie musicale. Le personnage de Buffy Summers est aujourd'hui reconnu comme l'une des plus grandes héroïnes de l'histoire de la télévision américaine.
À la fin des années 90 et au début des années 2000, l'actrice enchaîne les projets à succès pour adolescents au cinéma, en parallèle à la série, avec des blockbuster aujourd'hui cultes tels que les slasher Souviens-toi... l'été dernier (1997) et Scream 2 (1997), la comédie dramatique Sexe Intentions (1999), des projets tournés vers les plus petits (Scooby-Doo en 2002 et sa suite en 2004) ainsi que des films beaucoup plus effrayants comme The Grudge (2004). Puis, c'est dans des films indépendants que l'actrice s'illustre, sans grand succès. Elle tente un retour télévisuel au début des années 2010 avec les séries Ringer et The Crazy Ones, sans jamais retrouver le succès de Buffy contre les vampires.
