Lars Peter Riedel (né le 28 juin 1967 à Zwickau) est un athlète allemand, spécialiste du lancer du disque.
Il était vendeur d'ordinateurs dans la ville de Chemnitz en RDA. Quintuple champion du monde, champion d'Europe, champion olympique. Lars Riedel a tout gagné. Malgré un palmarès que beaucoup lui envient, l'Allemand ne détient qu'un titre olympique, obtenu à Atlanta mais qu'il n'est pas parvenu à conserver à Sydney.
En 2000, celui qui a été surnommé "le seigneur de l'anneau", ce cercle d'où les athlètes catapultent leur disque, a été devancé de 80 centimètres par le Lituanien Virgilijus Alekna. Sa photo de discobole nu, son corps entièrement doré, a fait le tour du monde et figure en page d'ouverture de son site internet.
Dans le stade aussi, Lars Riedel aime faire le spectacle et appelle les spectateurs à l'encourager.
Pourtant, l'Allemand a connu des difficultés pour se maintenir au plus haut niveau. Des ennuis de santé notamment, avec un dos malade en 1994, une infection virale au printemps 1998, ou encore une déchirure musculaire en septembre 1997.
