Judith Holofernes (Judith Holfelder von der Tann), née le 12 novembre 1976 à Berlin, est une chanteuse allemande.
Née à Berlin-Ouest, elle a suivi sa mère à Fribourg puis, après son bac, elle est revenue à Berlin pour étudier la communication sociale et la communication économique à l'Université des Arts, mais sans terminer son diplôme. Elle a présenté son mémoire en novembre 2001 sur Adbusters, un magazine anti-publicitaire. On trouve déjà dans ses chansons cette attitude critique qui la caractérise contre les médias et la société de consommation.
Holofernes a commencé à jouer de la musique dans la rue, puis a tenté sa chance comme auteur-compositeur-interprète, mais sans succès commercial ; tout a changé quand elle s'est mise à chanter et à jouer de la guitare dans le groupe Wir sind Helden, dont les membres s'étaient rencontrés au cours d'un séminaire de musique pop.
Son pseudonyme évoque Holopherne, ce général que l'on trouve dans le livre biblique de Judith et, semble-t-il, nulle part ailleurs car il est une impossibilité historique ; les juifs et les protestants, d'ailleurs, ne le reconnaissent pas. Il figure cependant dans la Bible catholique et a inspiré au cours des âges de très nombreux tableaux, comme ceux de Lucas Cranach ou de Gustav Klimt qui représentent Judith tenant la tête d'Holopherne qu'elle vient de couper.
