James Blake, né James Litherland le 26 septembre 1988 à Lewisham en Angleterre, est un auteur, compositeur, producteur et chanteur de musique électronique britannique. Il est également connu sous le nom d’Harmonimix pour la parution de ses remixes.
La critique plébiscite son univers électro introspectif empreint de soul, de folk et de dubstep. Son style se caractérise également par des silences et des compositions minimalistes . James Blake est considéré par la presse comme l'unique représentant d'un univers qu'il a créé à mi-chemin entre le dubstep, la pop et la soul.
Il anime depuis 2011 une émission de radio mensuelle appelée Residency sur BBC Radio 1, l'une des radios les plus importantes d'Angleterre. Il y fait un mix de deux heures le plus souvent accompagné d'invités tels que les artistes de son label 1-800 Dinosaur, les Mount Kimbie, Justin Vernon etc.
James Blake est le fils du guitariste James Litherland, le morceau The Wilhelm Scream est d'ailleurs une reprise de celui-ci, et d'une graphiste. Enfant il s'adonne au piano classique et étudie les partitions d'Art Tatum, D'Angelo et de Jimi Hendrix qu'il admire. Mais la révélation vient en 2007 lors d'une soirée au Plastic People à Shoreditch où James Blake, encore adolescent, entend pour la première fois du dubstep. Il choisira son nom d'artiste en référence au peintre britannique William Blake.
