Jean Marais, de nombre completo Jean Alfred Villain-Marais (Cherbourg, 11 de diciembre de 1913 - Cannes, 8 de noviembre de 1998), fue un actor francés. Fue además director de cine y teatro, escritor, pintor, escultor y alfarero.
De madre alsaciana y padre normando, a los cuatro años su madre parte con él a París y deja de verlo. Vivirá con su tía sin saber que su madre está en prisión por cleptomanía. No vuelve a ver a su padre hasta 40 años después.
Estudia en el Conservatorio con Charles Dullin y debuta en pequeños cameos en 1933.
Su encuentro con Jean Cocteau en 1937 lanza su carrera; el poeta y cineasta se enamora del joven actor y mantendrán una amistad amorosa hasta la muerte de Cocteau en 1963.
Estuvo brevemente casado con la actriz Mila Parély, que actuó en La bella y la bestia, entre 1942 y 1944.
Jean Cocteau da al principio a Marais un papel mudo ya que tiene una voz muy mala para el teatro; para cambiar su voz Marais se pondrá a fumar. Rápidamente Cocteau le escribe un papel a su medida, Les Parents terribles, que le otorga el reconocimiento de la profesión.
