Barry White (nacido como Barry Eugene Carter, 12 de septiembre de 1944 - 4 de julio de 2003) fue un cantante estadounidense del género R&B y soul. Caracterizado por un timbre bajo-barítono, grave y ronco, ganó tres premios Grammy y varios reconocimientos por su estilo varonil, romántico y sensual.
El mayor éxito de White vino en la década de 1970 como artista solista. Durante su carrera editó 26 álbumes y llegó tres veces al número 1 de las listas Hot 100 en su país, con las canciones que lo hicieron mundialmente famoso: Love's Theme (interpretado por su orquesta Love Unlimited Orchestra), Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe y You're the First, the Last, My Everything, las dos últimas procedentes del álbum Can't Get Enough de 1974. Falleció en 2003 debido a una insuficiencia renal crónica.
Barry White nació en Galveston, Texas, el 12 de septiembre de 1944 bajo el nombre de Barrence Eugene Carter. Se crío en el gueto negro de la ciudad de Los Ángeles, en el seno de una familia pobre. Esto se vio reflejado en su adolescencia, pues formó parte de una pandilla juvenil desde los 10 años de edad. A los 15 años fue encarcelado junto con su hermano durante dos meses por el robo de unos neumáticos. Inspirado por la canción “It's Now or Never” de Elvis Presley, la cual escuchó mientras estaba en prisión, decidió cambiar de vida y de amigos. Desde muy niño entró en el mundo de la música ya que su madre tocaba el piano y le enseñó algunos ejercicios de escalas. Más tarde entró a una fraternidad en la que tocaba el piano y cantaba en el coro de la iglesia. Rápidamente fue promovido a director del coro.
