André René Roussimoff(19 de mayo de 1946 - 27 de enero de 1993), más conocido como André the Giant, fue un luchador profesional y actor francés. Hijo de inmigrantes búlgaro y polaca, era el tercero de cinco hermanos. Su extraordinaria estatura se debía al gigantismo, una enfermedad que produce un aumento en la secreción de la hormona del crecimiento por disfunción de la glándula pituitaria lo que origina un crecimiento exagerado. Una vez cerrada la epífisis del hueso la enfermedad se conoce como acromegalia.
Dentro de sus logros destacan un reinado como Campeón de la WWF, y un reinado como Campeón Mundial en Parejas de la WWF. En 1993, se convirtió en el primer miembro del WWE Salón de la Fama tras su muerte, y único miembro de la clase del Salón de la Fama de 1993. De hecho, fue gracias a este luchador que el Hall of Fame de WWE fue creado.
André Roussimoff nació en Coulommiers, Francia, de Boris y Mariann Roussimoff, una pareja de ascendencia búlgara y polaca. Su apodo mientras era criado fue "Dédé". De niño, mostraba síntomas de su gigantismo de forma muy temprana, llegando a medir 191 centímetros (6 píes 3 pulgadas) de altura y pesar 94 kilógramos (208 libras) a los 12 años. El dramaturgo Samuel Beckett, un vecino quién posteriormente ganó un Premio Nobel de Literatura, compró algunas tierras en 1953, cerca de una aldea cerca de 60 kilómetros al noroeste de París. Compró un campo para sí mismo con ayuda del padre de André. Cuando Beckett se enteró que Roussimoff tenía problemas para llevar a su hijo a la escuela, Beckett ofreció llevarlo a la escuela su camioneta, ya que no cabía en el bus. Cuandó André recordaba los viajes con Beckett, reveló que ellos no hablaban de otra cosa más que de cricket.
