Julian Newman (born September 6, 2001) is an American basketball player. He plays varsity basketball at Downey Christian High School in Orlando. Newman rose to prominence in late 2012, while playing varsity high school basketball at age 11. Newman holds the record for the youngest player to ever reach 1000 career points at the high school level.
He has a younger sister named Jaden, who also plays basketball. They are trained by their father, basketball coach Jamie Newman.
Newman was born on September 6, 2001 to Vivian (née Gonzalez) and Jamie Newman, who had both been high school point guards in Orlando, Florida. Jamie played for Colonial High School, while Vivian attended University High School. Vivian later served in the United States Navy. Julian Newman has black, Jewish, and Hispanic ancestry.
At age 3, Newman began showing interest in basketball and Jamie soon had him play with regulation-size balls and in recreational leagues with older boys. His father began training him rigorously at a young age, with Newman reportedly making 100 free throws, 200 floaters, and 200 jump shots daily at practice.
