Biographie (wiki)
Irina-Camelia Begu (* 26. August 1990 in Bukarest) ist eine rumänische Tennisspielerin.
Begus Mutter Steluța arbeitet für die rumänische Regierung, ihr Vater Paul ist Elektriker. Ihr älterer Bruder heißt Andrei. Ihre als Tennistrainerin arbeitende Tante Aura Wagner brachte ihr im Alter von drei Jahren das Tennisspielen bei. Bis zum Jahr 2011 wurde sie von Daniel Dolbea betreut, danach von Marius Comănescu. Derzeit ist sie ohne Trainer.
Ihr Lieblingsbelag ist der Sandplatz. In der deutschen Bundesliga spielt sie für den TC Blau-Weiss Bocholt, mit dem sie 2012 und 2013 Deutsche Mannschaftsmeisterin wurde.
2007 gelang Begu der erste Erfolg auf ITF-Ebene, als sie ihre Landsfrau Cristina Mitu bei einem kleineren Turnier in Brașov besiegte.
Seit 2010 spielt sie für die rumänische Fed-Cup-Mannschaft, für die sie bereits elf Siege (bei neun Niederlagen) beisteuern konnte.
Zu Beginn der Saison 2011 gewann sie das Turnier von Cali, wo sie im Finale die damalige Nummer 105 der Welt, Laura Pous Tió, in zwei Sätzen besiegte. Zwei Runden zuvor war ihr gegen die Österreicherin Patricia Mayr-Achleitner der erste Sieg gegen eine Top-100-Spielerin gelungen.
