Erwin Esteban Schrott Baladon (* 21. Dezember 1972 in Montevideo, Uruguay) ist ein uruguayischer Opernsänger (Bassbariton), zusätzlich besitzt er seit 2010 die spanische Staatsbürgerschaft.
Erwin Schrott wurde im montevideanischen Stadtviertel La Comercial in eine Arbeiterfamilie mit österreichisch-deutschen Vorfahren geboren. Er debütierte im Alter von 22 Jahren in Montevideo in der Rolle des Roucher in Andrea Chénier und sang bald verschiedene Hauptrollen am Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile, darunter den Timur in Turandot, Sparafucile in Rigoletto und Ramphis in Aida. Am Royal Opera House Covent Garden sang er die Titelrolle in Mozarts Le nozze di Figaro. 1999 wurde er international bekannt, als er den 1. Preis sowohl des Publikums als auch der Jury beim Operalia-Wettbewerb gewann.
Der Künstler ist regelmäßiger Gast an den großen Opernbühnen wie: der Wiener Staatsoper, der Los Angeles Opera, der Metropolitan Opera New York, dem Royal Opera House London, dem Teatro San Carlo Neapel, dem Opernhaus Zürich, und der Mailänder Scala, der Opera national de Paris (wo er im Juni 2011 die Rolle des Figaro in Mozarts Le nozze di Figaro sang), um nur einige der vielen zu nennen. In Salzburg debütierte er 2008 bei den Festspielen an der Seite von Dorothea Röschmann, Ekaterina Siurina, Matthew Polenzani und Annette Dasch, als Leporello in Mozarts Don Giovanni.
