Robert Doyle Marshall Jr. (born October 17, 1960) is an American film and theater director, producer, and choreographer. He is best known for directing the film version of the Broadway musical Chicago. His work earned him the Directors Guild of America Award, in addition to receiving nominations for the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the BAFTA Award for Best Director. A five-time Tony Award nominee, he also won a Primetime Emmy Award for his choreography in the television film Annie (1999).

Robert Doyle Marshall Jr. was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His father Robert Doyle Marshall was a Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and his mother Anne was a teacher. Like him, his younger sister Kathleen became a choreographer and director.

In 1964, Robert Marshall joined the English department at the University of Pittsburgh, and the Marshall family relocated to Pittsburgh. Anne would later work for Pittsburgh Public Schools and the University of Pittsburgh School of Education, and Robert would become associate professor of English and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the same university.
