DMX conosciuto anche come Dark Man X, The Divine Master of the Unknown, pseudonimi di Earl Simmons (Baltimora, 18 dicembre 1970) è un rapper, attore e attivista statunitense.
È stato particolarmente famoso alla fine degli anni 1990 per i suoi scuri e gotici soggetti per le rime. Incarna un binomio vincente: il rispetto nel mondo underground unito ad un successo riscosso nella sfera commerciale. È un personaggio dalla forte personalità ed è caratterizzato per il grave del timbro vocale, per l'ossessione lirica verso i cani, per le sue rime che mescolano sacro e profano ed inoltre è uno dei più grandi rappresentanti dell'hardcore rap statunitense. Spesso DMX è stato comparato al leggendario Tupac Shakur, tanto che oggi viene considerato come uno dei più influenti artisti rap di sempre.
Earl si trasferì a New York con alcuni membri della famiglia, andando a vivere a Yonkers. Un'infanzia difficile lo plasma come un ragazzo impulsivo e manesco, che sopravvive rubando e tra mille difficoltà con la legge. L'hip hop gli permette di trovare una sorta di salvezza: inizia la sua carriera come DJ e come beatboxer, prendendo il nome dalla drum machine digitale DMX, il nome però è anche l'acronimo di "Dark Man X".
