Taulant Ragip Xhaka (born 28 March 1991) is a Swiss-born Albanian professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Swiss club Basel and the Albania national team. During the beginning of his career he played as a right back but following his return to the Basel team after his loan to Grasshopper Club he was moved to his current position defensive midfielder which he played at Albania national team since his debut in 2014 and since the start of the 2016–17 season with Basel.

Xhaka was born in Basel, Switzerland to Albanian parents originally from Kuršumlija, Serbia and is the elder brother of Granit Xhaka, who is also a professional footballer who plays for Arsenal and the Switzerland national team. His father Ragip was a student at University of Pristina and at age of 22 in 1986 he participated in demonstrations against the Communist Yugoslavia rule in Kosovo and as a result he was sentenced to prison for three and a half years. Their family moved from Podujevo, District of Prishtina to Switzerland in 1990 before either was born.
