José Rafael Amaya Nuñez (born 28 February 1977) is a Mexican actor. Amaya began acting with minor role in the telenovela La casa en la playa (2000), followed by roles in Sin pecado concebido (2001) and Mujer, casos de la vida real (2001). His breakthrough performance was as José Julián in Salomé (2001), from there followed roles in telenovelas such as Las vías del amor (2002) and Amar otra vez (2004). His first major debut was as Rafael / Gustavo in Las dos caras de Ana (2006) and he garnered an TVyNovelas Award nomination for Best Lead Actor for playing the title character.
Amaya was born February 28, 1977 in Hermosillo, Sonora but, after five years, he and his family moved to Tecate, Baja California. Since he was a small boy, Amaya excelled in a wide variety of sports. As a teenager, Amaya took classes in theater and music. After finishing high school, he traveled to San Diego, California to study at a local university. He returned to Mexico and started playing with various music groups, and it was with "Almalafa," that he went to live in Mexico City. Of all the band members, Amaya was the only one who stayed in the city where he devoted his career to modeling.
