Biography (wiki)

Philippe Montanier (born 15 November 1964) is French former footballer and manager. Montanier is one of a growing number of managers to have played as a goalkeeper in their earlier career; others include Leonid Slutsky, Walter Zenga and Julen Lopetegui. He is currently the head coach of Lens.

Montanier played as a goalkeeper for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 sides, including Caen, Nantes, Toulouse, Gueugnon and Saint-Étienne.

He managed US Boulogne from 2004 and was named Ligue 2 best manager in 2009. After achieving promotion to Ligue 1, he left Boulogne for Valenciennes FC.

Montanier was offered job as Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad manager. He signed a two-year contract with the club on 4 June 2011.

On 21 May 2013 it was announced that he would not extend his contract at Real Sociedad, and join Stade Rennais at the end of the season.

On 27 June 2016 he was appointed manager of Nottingham Forest, currently playing in the Championship. His first game in charge came on 6 August where his side beat newly promoted Burton Albion F.C. 4-3 at the City Ground. On 14 January 2017 Montanier was relieved of his duties following a run of 2 points from a possible 21 and only two clean sheets in 30 games.
