Miguel Herrán (born 25 April 1996) is a Spanish actor. He is best known for playing the roles of Aníbal "Río" Cortés in Money Heist and Christian Varela Expósito in Élite. In 2016, he won the Goya Award for Best New Actor for his role in the film Nothing in Return.
Herrán was born in Málaga and moved to Madrid with his mother as a child, where they lived in the Chamberí neighborhood. He was not very fond of school and dreamed of growing up to be a car mechanic.
A chance encounter with actor and director Daniel Guzman in the streets of Malaga led to Herrán auditioning for the role of Dario in the film A cambio de nada, which he won a Goya award for in 2016.
In 2017, he was cast as Rio in the Antena 4 series La casa de papel, which was later picked up by Netflix. In 2018, he starred as Christian Varela Expósito in the Netflix original series Elite.
He loves motorcycling and other sports.
