Manuel Arturo Machado (Spanish: ; born July 6, 1992) is a Dominican-American professional baseball third baseman and shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He previously played in MLB for the Baltimore Orioles. He was very highly recruited from an early age and attended Brito High School in Miami and was drafted by the Orioles with the third overall pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft. He bats and throws right-handed. He was raised in Miami, Florida.
Machado made his MLB debut in 2012. In 2013, Machado earned a spot on the American League (AL) All-Star team on his way to leading the league in doubles with 51. He was also recognized as one of the best fielders in the game, winning a Gold Glove Award and the 2013 AL Platinum Glove, given to the best defender at any position. Machado won his second Gold Glove in 2015. His defensive prowess has earned him frequent comparisons to the great Orioles third baseman and Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, and he was nicknamed "El Ministro de la Defensa" for his defense heroics during the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
