Juhi Chawla Mehta (born 13 November 1967) is an Indian actress, model, film producer, and the winner of the 1984 Miss India beauty pageant. She is the recipient of two Filmfare Awards, and has been praised for her comedic timing and vivacious on-screen persona.
Chawla made her acting debut in 1986 with Sultanat, and received public recognition with the tragic romance Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), where she became the inaugural winner of the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year. She established herself in 1993 by starring in the romances Aaina, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and Darr. Chawla achieved further success including, Ram Jaane (1995), Deewana Mastana (1997), Yes Boss (1997), Ishq (1997) and Arjun Pandit (1999). In the 21st century, Chawla began working with independent filmmakers in art-house projects, garnering critical acclaim for her work in Jhankaar Beats (2003), 3 Deewarein (2003), My Brother Nikhil (2005), Bas Ek Pal (2006), I Am (2011), Gulaab Gang (2014) and Chalk n Duster (2016).
