Fredrick "Fred" Lee Kerley (born May 7, 1995) is an American track and field athlete specializing in the sprints. His best time in the 400 meters, 43.70 set in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I West Preliminary in Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas on May 26, 2017, ranks him as the eighth fastest 400 meters sprinter in history. His time became the NCAA record, taking 3 tenths of a second off the 44.00 record by Olympic champion Quincy Watts, set almost 25 years earlier.
Kerley had met Watts just before the race. Earlier in the 2017 season, Kerley ran 44.09 while easing to the finish line at the SEC Championships in Columbia, South Carolina. Later in the season he won the 400 meters at the USA Championships in 44.03 seconds, qualifying him to represent the United States in the same event and the 4 × 400 meters relay at the World Championships in Athletics. After winning his heat he finished third in his semi, but qualified for the final on time.
