Dustin Luis Pedroia (born August 17, 1983) is an American baseball second baseman for the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is a four-time All-Star and an American League (AL) Most Valuable Player award winner, who has also received four Gold Glove Awards and a single Silver Slugger award.
Pedroia was drafted by the Red Sox in 2004, and made his major league debut in 2006 before becoming a full-time player in the 2007 season, and winning the AL Rookie of the Year award. He contributed to two Red Sox World Series championships in 2007 and 2013, and he is the only player from the 2007 World Series team still with the club. Pedroia remains under contract with the Red Sox through the 2021 season.
Pedroia is an above-average contact hitter with a very low strikeout rate and "a surprising amount of power", whose defense at second base has been rated significantly above-average. Pedroia has achieved Major League success.
